Chen Jiujin is a young villager living at the foot of Changbai Mountain. His grandfather was the most renowned spirit medium for miles around, but on the night a yellow weasel demanded a title, he died bleeding from all seven orifices. Their spirit altar was smashed, creditors surrounded their home, and the whole village called him a “little fake shaman.” He neither cried nor made a scene. Instead, he gathered evidence, called the police, and turned the tables on a creditor who had forged a loan note, sending him straight to the security station. The immortal companion he takes over is not a majestic fox spirit, but a foul-mouthed, greedy yellow weasel named Third Master Huang, who lies around all day scrolling through the Underworld’s social media. He boasts to everyone, “Black and White Impermanence are my card-game buddies, and Judge Cui is my drinking pal.” Then, when an evil cultivator comes to claim his life, Third Master Huang tears open the gates of hell with a single swipe of his claw. Turns out this fellow really does hold an official position in the Underworld.

O espírito imortal que herdou não era uma majestosa raposa espiritual, mas uma doninha-amarela chamada Terceiro Mestre Huang, de língua afiada, gulosa e que passava os dias deitado a percorrer as redes sociais do Submundo. Gabava-se a todos os que encontrava: «Heibai Wuchang são os meus parceiros de cartas, e o juiz Cui é o meu companheiro de copos.» Até que um cultivador maligno apareceu para lhe tirar a vida e o Terceiro Mestre Huang rasgou as Portas dos Fantasmas com uma única patada.
