The Heart of a Wolf
The hunter A Sen rescues an injured wolf cub and unexpectedly obtains a precious lynx pelt. Two wicked villagers, Fugui and Zhang Ergou, covet the fur and devise a scheme to persuade A Sen's wife, A Lian, to join them. The three get A Sen drunk and abandon him in the forest, intending to steal the pelt and flee. Protected by the wolf king, to whom he once showed kindness, A Sen miraculously survives. When he returns home, he finds everything in disarray. In the end, A Sen sees through the greed in human hearts and donates the lynx pelt to the village to establish a school, hoping the next generation can leave the mountains behind. Fugui and the others are imprisoned for theft, proving that good and evil both have their consequences. The story contrasts gratitude and betrayal, revealing the striking differences between the nature of wolves and the human heart.
