While fishing, the old fisherman Jiang accidentally caught Yinshuang, the Ninth Princess of the Canglan Dragon King. Blinded by greed, his adopted son Zhao Ergou ignored his father's pleas and plucked ten dragon scales to sell for four hundred taels of ill-gotten silver, leaving the gravely injured dragon girl in a foul ditch. Jiang rescued Yinshuang a second time out of benevolence. However, Zhao Ergou pretended to repent and returned home, coveting the golden egg and scales Yinshuang left in gratitude. He even falsely accused his adoptive father of harboring demonic creatures, landing Jiang in prison. Following a courtroom confrontation and the dragon princess's testimony, Zhao Ergou's crimes were exposed, and he was sentenced to three years of hard labor on the river to atone for his sins. Ground down by hardship, his greed faded, and he finally awoke to his errors.
