In a mountain village, young Xiaoji accidentally kills and cooks a white fox cub to nourish his sick grandmother. Soon, eerie occurrences plague his home: the family dog dies gruesomely, the ancestral grave spontaneously combusts, and grandmother collapses in terror. Villagers whisper of a vengeful fox spirit. Consumed by fear and rage, Xiaoji and his younger brother Xiaoyong set traps to hunt down the white fox. As Xiaoji moves to slaughter it for revenge, his grandmother and a blind seer rush in to stop him.
