On the Day of Breaking Off the Engagement, I Inherited a Commercial Street
Lin Chen visits his girlfriend of three years, Su Qing, to ask for her hand in marriage. His future mother-in-law, Li Guilan, demands an 880,000-yuan bride price and a 120-square-meter apartment in the city center. She throws his gifts out the door and insults him as a poor man earning only 6,000 yuan a month who is unworthy of her daughter. Su Qing, with the wealthy Zhao Kai by her side, mocks Lin Chen in public, saying he cannot even afford a fraction of Zhao Kai's watch, and blocks him. Just after Lin Chen is thrown out, he receives a series of life-changing notifications. The demolition of his old family home brings 80 million yuan in compensation and five relocation apartments. His grandfather, who had been out of contact for years, has also left him an entire commercial street in the eastern part of the city, generating 20 million yuan in monthly rent. Ownership is officially transferred to Lin Chen. The next day, the Su family comes begging for reconciliation, only to find more than a dozen developers surrounding Lin Chen and addressing him as 'President Lin.' Li Guilan drops to her knees on the spot.
