Empress Shen Jinghe and the young emperor Xiao Qi were childhood sweethearts. However, because the Empress Dowager held court from behind the curtain and imperial authority waned, Shen Jinghe was forced to play eight different concubines in the harem all by herself, switching faces and roles day and night to help her husband balance the court and spy on informants. Who could have known that Ye Qingyin, a transmigrated woman, would suddenly storm into the palace, openly declaring her intent to become Empress Regnant while carrying ten billion taels of gold from an enemy nation? She throws money around at everyone she meets, forming cliques and boasting that she will crush these "ancients" with modern knowledge. Little does she know that Noble Consort De is her, Consort Shu is also her, and Consort Liang and Consort Xian are all Shen Jinghe alone.
