Born into a humble family, Censor Shen Yan spent five years of marriage pinching pennies and depositing his entire salary into a joint private vault, hoping for a peaceful future for his family. When his uncle was critically injured and in desperate need of money, Shen Yan asked for vault silver to save his life, only to be slapped by his wife, Su Wanqing. It was then that he discovered the 53,000 taels in the private vault had long been secretly channeled by her to subsidize her childhood sweetheart, Gu Yunzhou. At a grand banquet, Shen Yan publicly exposed the truth, revealing all account ledgers, receipts, and paternity test documents. Upon learning that their young child was not his own, he decisively divorced her, severing this misplaced marriage forever.
