In Qingshan County, the orphaned youth Ye Chujiu only has seven taels and eight mace of silver to his name. Unable to afford even the cheapest mortal beast egg, he is repeatedly humiliated in public by Shen Yulin, the young master of the Shen family. At his wit's end, Ye Chujiu unexpectedly finds an unremarkable, scorched black beast egg by a mountain stream and hatches a little black beast named Meiqiu. Looking like a little black dog, this voracious creature loves gnawing on copper and iron coins. Everyone dismisses it as a common stray beast, unaware that it is a dormant divine beast of the Mountains and Seas. During the county academy's spirit pet test, even the spirit testing stone barely manages to capture its immense power. As the county academy entrance trial begins, a spirit pet showdown is on the brink of erupting.
