On a snowy night, herder Jibusen delivers cubs for a mother wolf facing difficult labor, saving three wolf pups. After the mother wolf departs, the flock of sheep is ambushed by grey wolves, leading Jibusen to misunderstand that the wolf repaid kindness with ingratitude. Soon after, the Black Wolf King leads the wolf pack to their door, clarifying the truth and bringing Lin Wanqing, a maiden from Jiangnan who fell off a cliff, to repay their kindness. Wanqing and Batu gradually develop mutual feelings and marry. However, the bandit Heiying tracks down Wanqing with a portrait and abducts her. Jibusen turns to the Black Wolf King for help; guided by the wolves, the herders unite to intercept and kill the bandits in a canyon, uncovering evidence against the mastermind Shen Wanshan and wiping them all out. A year later, spring comes early to the prairie; Batu and Wanqing are blessed with a son, and humans and wolves safeguard peace together.
