Qin Feng, a constable in Qinghe County, investigates the murder of a wealthy merchant and unexpectedly uncovers evidence that county vice-magistrate Zhao Dezhu embezzled funds and committed murder, unwittingly pulling himself into Grand Secretary Yan Song's vast network of court corruption. Solving a string of major cases involving abducting maidens for blood pills and smuggling illicit salt, he gradually unravels how his father, former Vice Minister of War Qin Henian, was framed by Yan Song, plunging his entire family into wrongful ruin. Aided by friends and old subordinates, Qin Feng steadily advances, gathers irrefutable evidence, roots out Yan Song's clique step by step, and finally brings the corrupt minister to trial before the Emperor, clearing his family's name, taking charge of the realm's judicial system, and staying true to his vow of justice.
