1995, a building-materials street in Jiangnan. After her husband Zhao Jiadong dies in an accident, Lin Qiuhe is forced at his wake by her mother-in-law and brother-in-law to hand over the account books. Holding her five-year-old daughter, she kowtows three times and leaves with nothing. Everyone thinks she's finished. Starting with a street stall under a bridge, relying on her eye for goods, her bookkeeping and chasing clients, she opens Qiuhe Hardware. Two years later, at a court auction, she buys back her late husband's shop in one stroke. Her mother-in-law begs on her knees, and her brother-in-law is abandoned by everyone. The whole street knows: Zhao Jiadong's wife is not to be messed with.
