When the Wind Rises in the Cage of Words
Liu Zhiyi, the daughter of the richest man in Jiangnan, traveled far to Shangjing for her betrothal to care for her poisoned fiancé, Ji Boda. For three years, she set aside her wealth and lived frugally on bran and coarse vegetables, yet she was despised by him for her merchant background, and he even condoned his "sworn younger sister," Fang Zhirou, in trampling upon her. Upon learning that Ji Boda's life relied entirely on her family's ten-thousand-liang life-extending medicine, Liu Zhiyi suddenly woke up to reality, cut off the medicine, called off the engagement, and reclaimed her wealthy nature. After his poison flared up, Ji Boda begged for reconciliation and was rejected; he fell into corruption and prison out of greed for medicine money, and turned against Fang Zhirou. Liu Zhiyi returned to Jiangnan, began a new life amidst her parents' pampering, and completely shook off the misplaced affection.
