Fifteen Years of Free Carpentry, After I Flip the Table, the Whole Village Begs Me to Return
Carpenter Zhao Lei has kept his prices unchanged for fifteen years, even frequently paying for materials out of his own pocket to help his neighbors. But when he posts a notice stating that customers must provide their own lumber, he is branded an ungrateful, greedy man. The entire village joins forces to drive him into a desperate corner, kicking over his toolbox and trampling on his dignity. Furious, Zhao Lei closes up shop and vows never to serve them again! Not long afterward, the roof beam of Sun Er Leng's house collapses after he refuses to have it replaced. His wife breaks her leg, and his beloved dog dies. The devastating consequences finally awaken the villagers. They realize that excessive kindness can breed resentment, and that it was never the craftsmanship that lacked value, but their own consciences that had betrayed his generosity. No one should forget the kindness they have received! After this ordeal, Zhao Lei establishes his own rules, opens a carpentry shop, takes on apprentices, and finally earns the respect he deserves.
