Modern young man Lu Ping transmigrates to a cultivation world and becomes a crawfish awaiting slaughter in the Spirit Beast Sect's breeding farm, awakening the Devour and Evolve System. Han Weiwei, an odd-job worker at the farm, discovers Lu Ping's anomaly, and the two decide to stake their lives on an alliance. Lu Ping continuously undergoes metamorphosis and evolution by devouring spirit beasts and monster beasts, fighting Wang Hai, a manager harboring designs on Han Weiwei. He then infiltrates the sect, contends with the machinations of outer elder Li Jinping, and even tames an Infernal Fire Sparrow possessing phoenix bloodline. Lu Ping breaks through all the way to the Golden Core stage, transforming into a Primordial Giant Crawfish. Defeated, Li Jinping flees in panic to seek refuge with the lingering soul of Ning Yuanyao, the sect's former master.
