She possessed a palm-sized booklet named "Record of Jinnian," kept exclusively to log his perfunctory neglect—a reply of only three lines, recorded once; an abrupt postponement, recorded once; wine poured by her that he refused to drink, recorded once. She set herself a deadline: once a hundred disappointments accumulated, she would wait no longer. On the day of the hundredth mark, she placed the booklet before him and turned to leave. He had assumed she would always remain, only to be consumed by bitter regret once she was truly gone. Yet she was already awakened—this ledger would record disappointment no more.
