Pei Zhaochuan, a dust-sweeping menial servant at the very bottom of the Xuanyue Sect, was escorted to the Spirit-Severing Platform to have his spiritual breath crippled under three crimes: stealing the patriarch's old seal, destroying the forbidden formation, and breaking the flying sword. In reality, he was chosen by Yu Chengyuan, the executive deacon of the Sect Affairs Department, to be a scapegoat—dirty work for him to bear, with the truth investigated by no one. At the moment of the execution, the patriarch's old seal recognized him as its master, and the "Myriad Contracts Bureau" awakened, enabling him to see the residual contract marks on all things, and thereby trace the true culprit of every sect affair.
