Shen Jingzhou, the Minister of Personnel, is framed for treason and colluding with the enemy by his long-time trusted friend Lu Mingyuan. His residence is sealed, and his entire household is arrested. His only son, Shen Yanzhi, is rescued by a loyal servant and narrowly escapes. Concealing his identity, Shen Yanzhi is aided by Su Qinghe, the daughter of an imperial censor, and former loyal subordinates of the Shen family. Searching through old case files and city trails for evidence of the conspiracy, he advances step by step from a petty local official into the vortex of court power struggles, ultimately tearing away Lu Mingyuan's hypocritical mask to clear the Shen family's name.
