Republic-Era Ghostly Records: Do Not Steal from the Poor
On the Ghost Festival in the thirty-first year of the Republic, police officer Lu Zhensheng coerced the rickshaw puller Lao Wang to his death and embezzled his fifty silver dollars worth of goods. Cheng Shoumo, a colleague versed in occult arts, warned him that he had committed a fatal debt of life and would be claimed by a debt-collecting ghost within three days, but Lu Zhensheng completely disbelieved it. Thereafter, strange occurrences frequently broke out in the police station, and ominous evil contracts surfaced on Lu Zhensheng's body; yet he still did not repent, treating his colleagues with the illicit money and implicating two people in getting tainted with karmic debt. Once the deadline arrived, Lu Zhensheng was possessed by an evil ghost. Everyone burned the debt contract to resolve the malevolent evil, and in the end Lu Zhensheng perished, Xu Shi'an lost his mind and became disabled, while Cheng Shoumo and Zhou Suxin saw through the perils and left, alerting the world that ill-gotten wealth takes lives and fatal debts are hard to repay.

Durante il Festival dei Fantasmi nel trentunesimo anno della Repubblica, il poliziotto Lu Zhensheng costrinse a morte il guidatore di risciò Lao Wang e si impossessò illegalmente delle sue merci del valore di cinquanta dollari d'argento.
