Reject My 500-Yuan Cold-Chain Transport, Lose the Whole Village’s Life Savings Instead
Jiang Daqiang anticipates extreme heat during the hottest days of summer and drives a refrigerated truck back to Wangshan Village to help. He offers to transport watermelons at cost—500 yuan per ton—but the villagers accuse him of pocketing the difference. They tear up the contract and believe Wang Erzhu’s promise of a lower price. Hundreds of tons of watermelons then rot in the sun, wiping out their investment. Meanwhile, neighboring Luoshi Village follows Jiang Daqiang’s lead, sells its watermelons to supermarkets at high prices, and lands a deal with a juice factory. Regretting their choice, the villagers kneel and beg Jiang Daqiang for help. But he no longer makes exceptions for his neighbors: he refuses every watermelon that fails to meet his standards.
