Shen Yuening's father lost his wife early and raised his daughter alone. He loves her deeply and has always made decisions for her, handling everything in her life, big and small. However, his excessive care has come to feel like overbearing control to his daughter. After she tears up her university admission letter, breaks with her father for love, and becomes pregnant before marriage, he reflects painfully on his actions and makes the difficult decision to cut off his financial support and stop cleaning up her messes. Though he appears cold and unyielding, he never stops worrying about his daughter. He has not abandoned their family bond entirely; instead, he uses a harsh approach to force her to become independent while learning to reconcile with himself and accept that parents cannot live their children's lives for them.
