Shen Jiayu is the only daughter of the Duke of Zhenguo. Because of her extraordinary beauty, the emperor summons her to the palace by imperial decree and immediately appoints her to the third-rank position of Noble Concubine, shocking all the civil and military officials. Her parents, however, are consumed with worry, afraid that their daughter will be bullied in the imperial harem. Shen Jiayu remains completely unconcerned. When her mother anxiously asks whether she is afraid, Shen Jiayu casually replies, “I, Shen Jiayu, am the legitimate eldest daughter and only daughter of the First-Rank Duke of Zhenguo's household. I am also the emperor's first cousin and the niece of the most revered woman in the Jing Dynasty, the Empress Dowager. So what if I enter the palace? What do I have to fear? The people in the imperial harem should be the ones who are afraid.” Thus begins Shen Jiayu's journey through the imperial harem.
