A poor young man spent all the savings meant for his sick mother's medicine to save an old yellow dog from the butcher's knife. The dog understood human speech and, to repay his lifesaving kindness, guided him to herbs that cured his mother's chronic illness, and taught him how to grow corn on barren land to make a fortune. The village bully grew envious and framed him repeatedly, even attempting to poison the entire village feast at his wedding. With the dog's continuous help, Li Shisheng weathered every storm. In the end, the bully was exiled, Li Shisheng married and had children, and having fulfilled its spiritual debt, the loyal dog returned to the mountains.
