When swine fever suddenly strikes a neighboring village, pig trader Shen Mo rushes back home to sound the alarm. Offering an emergency buyout at 5.2 yuan per pound, he is instead accused by fellow villagers of profiting from disaster. Swayed by an unscrupulous trader's empty promise of 8.8 yuan, the villagers refuse to sell. When the plague inevitably arrives and their pigs collapse one after another, the crooked trader slashes prices to fleece them. Suffering catastrophic losses, the villagers finally realize that the low price they once despised was actually their only saving grace.
