In her past life, Chi Yueying fell in love with Xie Qingchen when they were young, unaware of his true identity. Later drafted into the imperial palace as a maid, she was forcibly taken by the emperor as his concubine and had to struggle to survive in the harem. But the fatuous emperor neglected military defense, allowing the prairie nomad tribes to march straight in and lay siege to the capital. To sue for peace, the emperor sent Chi Yueying, then already an imperial noble consort, to the Prairie King as a plaything, using it as a trap to lure and assassinate Xie Qingchen, the Prince of Nanchen.
