Bridge high-altitude maintenance worker Lin Jianguo, in order to keep his promise to his late wife Song Wanrong, single-handedly shoulders a huge medical trust debt. Eating boiled noodles year-round, collecting scrap, and selling blood to repay debts, he heartlessly misses his daughter Lin Xiaoya's wedding and refuses to pay the down payment for the wedding home, deeply resented by his daughter. During a high-altitude accident, to protect a detector worth over one hundred thousand, his right arm suffers a comminuted fracture, yet he is fired and refused compensation by the black-hearted foreman Li Dashan. In a rainstorm, while collecting scrap to scrape together money, he catches an infection, goes into shock, and is rushed to the emergency room.
