In continuous heavy rain, deep inside a Jiangnan mansion, the eldest grandson of the first branch dies suddenly and lies in state. The nanmu coffin lid is left ajar by three inches; the corpse's mouth holds mercury, a bronze coin presses down his tongue, yet the corners of his mouth weirdly curve into a purplish-blue post-mortem grin! Western female medical examiner Wen Jian sneaks into the funeral hall at midnight to examine the body, only to have her wrist grabbed in a dark alcove by a frail youth covered in needle marks, coughing up blood with a cold sneer. It is the deceased's younger brother, Shen Yu: "The poison was set by me, and the man was killed by me. Forensic Doctor Wen, Shen awaits your judgment in death row." As the killer confesses on the spot, the old patriarch of the Shen clan secretly plots to drive eight eight-inch bone-penetrating iron nails on the seventh morning to permanently seal the coffin and sink it into the subterranean palace behind the mountain!
