Animation storyboard artist Shen He returns to her hometown, originally planning only to help her grandfather restage a shadow puppetry show and leave after seven days. Unexpectedly, right before the public rehearsal, all seven performing shadow puppets in the prop chest vanish, leaving behind only a puzzle to locate them. Following clues from faded group photos, old costumes, drum scores, and a blank script, she discovers her mother was once the troupe's lead performer, and Gao Youchuan, a cultural center staff member, is intricately linked to events from twenty years ago. As the countdown ticks, the young animator's modern thinking continually clashes with the veteran artists' traditional craft. As the seven puppets are gradually recovered, will the unfinished classic play finally gather the people willing to stand together once more?
