Her fiancé Zhou Yanting dotes on the scheming Meng Yunwan and even holds back the 500,000 needed to save Song Zhiyi's brother, forcing her to kneel — and her brother dies. Utterly heartbroken, Song Zhiyi throws his death certificate in front of everyone and walks away for good. Then the truth comes out: the one who risked his life to save Zhou Yanting years ago was never Meng Yunwan, but Song's brother! In the end, Meng Yunwan is sent to prison, and Zhou Yanting desperately seeks atonement. Song Zhiyi refuses to forgive him, devotes herself to teaching in the countryside, and begins a new, independent and clear-eyed life.
