Su Ahao was sold as a child bride into the Shen family, agreeing with Shen Congzhang that once he passed the imperial exams and made a name for himself, each would be free to marry whom they pleased. Yet Shen Congzhang reneges on the agreement, attempting to keep her beside him while favoring his fiancée Cui Ying at the lantern festival. Determining her own fate, Su Ahao manages to retrieve her deed of indenture and leaves for Jiangzhou to run a noodle shop. Zhou Xianyu, who harbors deep feelings for her, is reassigned to Jiangzhou and quietly supports and protects her. Two years later, after breaking off his engagement, Shen Congzhang comes begging for reconciliation, only to be firmly rejected by Su Ahao as she cuts all ties with the past. In the end, she and Zhou Xianyu find mutual understanding and happiness, building a peaceful, self-reliant life through her own hard work.
