In a run-down escort agency in the Southern Border, Wan Jun, a cold and solitary young escort master, wields a thunder blade, holds to the rules, and protects escorts as if guarding life itself. Princess Xila of Xiyan, searching for the lower volume of her ancestral military treatise, is pursued by four tribes on her way north and hires Wan Jun with heavy gold. A single escort contract entangles them in a twenty-year-old cold case of the Wanlei Clan's massacre. As the thunder lineage awakens and the red-flame sword energy sweeps across the sky, they break gu formations, battle cold mountains, break into military armories, and guard Flamebone Valley. Truth cuts like a blade; old alliances run like blood. Wan Jun's blade protects more than just one life, and Xila's flame shines beyond the road ahead. Their oath of thunder and fire will eventually pierce through the endless night wind behind the Black Thunder Gate.
