Building a road in the village should have been a great public-spirited undertaking that benefited everyone. However, Zhou Chuan's second uncle, Zhou Dewang, obstructs the project on the grounds of feng shui and demands 88,000 yuan as a fee to ward off evil spirits, bringing construction to a standstill. Unwilling to give in to unreasonable demands, Zhou Chuan decides to reroute the road in accordance with the law, even if it costs an additional 140,000 yuan, so that the road can be completed. Once the new road opens, the entire village benefits, while the stretch in front of Zhou Dewang's house remains a muddy track. As his son's wedding runs into difficulties and his agritourism business suffers, Zhou Dewang gradually experiences the consequences of his own choices. Pourtant, Zhou Dewang, le deuxième oncle de Zhou Chuan, bloque le projet au nom du feng shui et réclame 88 000 yuans pour un rituel censé éloigner les mauvais esprits, paralysant ainsi les travaux. Refusant de céder à ces exigences déraisonnables, Zhou Chuan décide de modifier le tracé dans le respect de la loi, quitte à dépenser 140 000 yuans supplémentaires pour achever la route. Lorsque la nouvelle route est ouverte, tout le village en profite, à l'exception du tronçon devant la maison de Zhou Dewang, qui reste un chemin boueux. Alors que le mariage de son fils rencontre des obstacles et que son activité de tourisme rural est affectée, Zhou Dewang commence peu à peu à subir les conséquences de ses propres choix. Confronté à la réalité, il comprend enfin que ce qui apporte véritablement la prospérité, ce ne sont ni les superstitions ni les manœuvres intéressées, mais des routes construites sérieusement et la bonne volonté des gens.
