Silk Shadows: Born in Pairs
To bring Su embroidery into contemporary life, a young female embroiderer creates a double-sided magnolia embroidery screen displaying different colors at morning and dusk. Facing challenges such as color imbalance, stitch path conflicts, damp embroidery fabric, and commercialization disputes, she collaborates with master embroiderers and partners to experiment step-by-step—from splitting silk threads, hiding thread ends, sketching from life, and color matching to display stand design—repeatedly undoing stitches and making corrections. Ultimately, the artwork is displayed in the courtyard with lattice windows of an ancient mansion. The two sides share the same branches and veins yet depict different times of day, enabling the traditional craft to find a new expression in daily life through authenticity, rigor, and innovation.
