As a child, Zhang Xiulan became mentally disabled due to an accident. When she grew up, her mother tricked her into marrying Guo Jianye from a neighboring village. Because she was simple-minded, her mother-in-law despised her, and her husband resented her and refused to consummate the marriage. Tensions between mother-in-law and daughter-in-law mounted daily, with only her sister-in-law treating her kindly. However, kind-hearted Zhang Xiulan dissolved grievances with gentleness. Through her daily care, the fractured home was brought back together. Later, when her mother fell critically ill, Zhang Xiulan ventured up the mountain to gather medicinal herbs and accidentally fell. Nursed day after day by her family, she finally regained her wits, and the family lived happily together!
