A drought lasting more than forty days has left the fields cracked and barren. Staying by her critically ill mother, Shen Qinghe plants a black seed left behind by her late father, which sprouts into a green vine reaching the heavens. She climbs the vine to the mountaintop, meets the talking mountain-guarding hound A Hui, and obtains a chipped ceramic bowl. The divine bowl can conjure food and medicinal broth, and expose the greed and secrets within human hearts. Her eldest uncle, the clan patriarch, and Qian Wanshan—who hoarded grain and sealed off the water spring—all covet the treasure bowl. Shen Qinghe uses the divine bowl to shatter their conspiracies and uncovers the truth behind her father's death. In the end, she returns the bowl and the hound to the mountain, realizing that only when everyone unites, springs return to the village, and grain returns to the fields can the common folk truly thrive.
