A woman gathering firewood in the mountains rescues a white ferret trapped in a hunting snare. Back home, her young son Anping requires medicinal herbs, running up a debt at the medicine shop. The shopkeeper seizes the chance to make things difficult: forcing down purchase prices, tampering with accounts, attempting to seize the ferret, and compelling her to brave the deep mountains for herbs. Remaining calm and composed, she takes on new weaving orders thanks to her exquisite craft, winning the warm support of kind neighbors and an upright merchant. Presenting kept receipts, she meticulously reconciles past records, exposes the dishonest shopkeeper's adulteration of goods before the crowd, reclaims justice, clears her debts, and safeguards her family loom and herb plots. Once fully healed, the snow ferret returns safely to the valley.
