In a single night, coastal physician Chen Wanghai sees his clinic's sign smashed and doors sealed, cast out of the fishing village as an alleged killer peddling counterfeit medicine. Yet only a copper button lodged in a rock crevice holds the deadly truth behind the ledger. Amid crashing waves on dark reefs, a wounded purple fox speaks: "Follow me, life-saving medicine hides within the Sea Herb Bay." Plunging into the sea to cut the nets, he strikes a three-part pact with the fox: leave the seedlings untouched, keep the roots of mature herbs, and never reveal the path. An outcast sea doctor and a wounded spirit fox wage an all-out wager against a corrupt syndicate of pharmaceutical merchants.
