On the Yunlan Continent, spiritual energy has been steadily declining, and the sects of the Nine Realms fight in secret over the spiritual source. Yun Che, a lowly miscellaneous chore disciple of the Cangwu Sword Sect, has mixed spiritual roots, yet possesses spiritual eyes capable of seeing through the flow of spiritual energy. When a spiritual source theft case breaks out, he traces it to discover that the energy decay is caused by someone laying down a massive soul-siphoning array to drain the continent's energy to nourish a single city. Wen Qinglan, the chief of the Wanxiang Academy, comes to investigate and partners with Yun Che from misunderstanding to standing shoulder to shoulder, only to reunite later in the ruins of the ancient quicksand city due to differing stances. Half a spirit-illuminating pearl fragment inside Yun Che's body is the very origin of his spiritual eyes. In the end, the Nine Realms join forces to deploy a soul-switching array to reverse the tide.
