Shen Hongsheng, the seventh-generation inheritor of the intangible cultural heritage Hongyin Troupe, is calm and observes propriety, regarding the ancestral suona masterpiece "A Hundred Birds Paying Homage to the Phoenix" as his lifelong adherence. On the eve of the funeral of the master of the Lin family, senior apprentice Ma Xiaofeng is heavily bribed by celebration boss Qian Sihai and the Lin family's second young master Du Shaoheng to steal the ancestral suona, incite the troupe to disband, and attempt to embarrass Shen Hongsheng in public at the wealthy family's funeral. Shen Hongsheng implores the old troupe members to help each other with one heart; in front of the wealthy family's gate, a suona fights against a Western band; at the funeral site, he exposes the opponent's scheme, punishes the traitor, and retrieves the suona. On the stormy mountain peak, he exhausts all his efforts to play "A Hundred Birds Paying Homage to the Phoenix", the music is moving, thousands of birds arrive upon hearing it, and he becomes famous with a single tune.
