Shi Lan travels to the desolate and remote planet Heiming to take up an unwanted warden position, seeking nothing more than quiet isolation. She thought she was running a troublesome prison, but held within are five extraordinary beasts on the brink of mental collapse and nearing death: an aloof white lion, a proud bird-of-paradise, a cold black panther, an adorable Pallas's cat, and an enchanting nine-tailed fox. At first, the five little beasts conspire to make life hard for their new keeper. Yet under Shi Lan's daily treats, desserts, and tender care, the untamable beasts completely soften up. Little do they know, a mysterious mushroom hides above the girl's head, quietly healing these proud fur babies and kicking off a cozy retirement-style feeding routine on a lonely planet.
