College student Lai Bofan finds an old Republican-era magazine titled "Tales of the Curious" in his ancestral home and reads about his great-grandfather Lai Xiakun's quest to protect national treasures. During the turbulent Beiyang warlord era, Lai Xiakun founded the magazine alongside Wang Yanqiu and Su Muwan. When they inadvertently uncover clues to the "Tianmu Secret Treasure," they head to Mount Tianmu to prevent the national treasure from falling into villainous hands. After braving countless dangers to reach the cache, Wang Yanqiu betrays them for his family's interests, trapping everyone in a dire crisis. Ultimately, the bandit leader Wilson triggers a hidden mechanism that collapses the stone cavern, burying the treasure deep underground.
