Tear Down My Elephant Barrier, Don't Come Crying to Me
Young Chen Feng plants moringa and tree-of-heaven trees along the village boundary to create a natural scent barrier against wild elephants. His cousin Zhao Hu complains that the trees block sunlight from his mango orchard, then joins forces with their maternal uncle to persuade villagers to file a joint complaint against Chen. Using a rectification notice, they pressure Chen into cutting down the trees and signing a waiver accepting responsibility for any resulting losses. Once the protective barrier is removed, wild elephants follow the scent of fruit into the village and destroy Zhao's entire mango orchard. Facing losses worth millions, Zhao turns against Chen, leads villagers to his door to demand compensation, and even deliberately poisons and damages Chen's ecological farm. With conclusive evidence against him, Zhao is dealt with according to the law. Holding no grudges, Chen takes the lead in rebuilding a multilayered elephant-defense system and developing fruit and vegetable farming suited to local conditions, helping the entire village increase its income and achieve prosperity.
