Outer disciple Lu Chengfeng, born with a cold meridian and wielding the restrained blade Zhaoxue, is graded as inferior in the preliminary assessment and has his monthly stipend cut. To preserve his path of the sword, he pledges half a year of duty guarding the Frost Wind Cave in exchange for an extreme-cold array disc and a remnant manual. Braving danger to quench his blade with his cold meridian, he condenses a frost crystal core within Zhaoxue. Three days later at the decisive battle on Sky Blue Cliff, facing Yan Chengyuan's fierce Blazing Sun Greatsword, Lu Chengfeng endures stagnant true qi and steps back all the way to the precipice. Ultimately channeling the opponent's extreme yang sword qi to shatter Zhaoxue's dull shell, he breaks the attack with a fundamental upward parry, clinches the top rank to enter the inner sect, and calmly embraces the cost of an injured meridian, a cracked blade, and six months of guarding duty.
