In the 1970s, a spirit gourd deep in Mount Jing transformed into a human child and was picked up by Lin Yue while digging wild vegetables, earning the name Xiaobao. Xiaobao brings her own blessings—catching big fish in the river, trapping pheasants on the mountain, and foreseeing danger. Facing a bitter sister-in-law, Lin Yue takes her three sons and daughter to separate from the family, only for their lives to flourish even more. Xiaobao was once abducted to be a child bride but escaped with her wit; when a mad bull threatened villagers, she stepped in to save them, winning the gratitude of the entire village. Even as aunt Zhang Guizhi stirs up trouble repeatedly and the Zhang family comes to cause a scene, the villagers unite to protect the Lin family. Xiaobao also brings auspicious omens and blessings to the village, while Lin Yue sells vegetables to the commune canteen, wrapping the whole family in fortune and love.
