In 1977, a mother is reborn one year before the tragedy that destroyed her family. In her previous life, educated youth Liu Xueyan falsely accused her son, Xu Qiang, of assaulting her so he would marry her and take responsibility for her unborn child. The whole village forced the marriage, leaving the family impoverished as they cared for her. Months later, Liu gave birth to a dark-skinned baby, exposing her lies. When the child's biological father came to take Liu and the baby away, Xu Qiang demanded an explanation, but Liu and her lover brutally beat the mother and son to death in broad daylight. Given a second chance, the mother locks Xu Qiang on the mountain to prevent history from repeating itself. But when she returns to the village, she learns that Liu Xueyan has once again been assaulted and is demanding justice at her home.
