The Ground Floor Disagrees
Building No. 7 plans to install an elevator. The elderly residents on the upper floors have been looking forward to it for five years, but one resident on the first floor, Zhang Guifen, blocks the entire project with a single "I don't agree." The whole building remains at a standstill for five years. Eventually, 23 households pool together 30,000 yuan in compensation, sign the agreement, and leave their fingerprints before construction can finally begin. But after the elevator is installed and Zhang has received the money, she keeps refusing to pay her share of the operating costs. Five years later, on her daughter's wedding day, the elevator is shut down for its scheduled inspection. The groom's family arrives to celebrate, only to find an elderly person collapsed beside a delivery truck and a sewage-cleaning truck blocking the red wedding carpet. They immediately call off the marriage. From that day on, a receipt, a maintenance logbook, and more than 400 access-card records are laid out on the table one by one. Lin Zhiyuan, the property management maintenance worker, never argues or raises his voice. He simply lays out the accounts.
