On the eve of the Cold Clothing Festival, Meng Zhifei and his younger brother Meng Zhifan went night climbing despite Xu Yilan's dissuasion, encountering a woman burning paper money on the mountain. Meng Zhifan attempted to assault her, while Meng Zhifei coveted her money. During a struggle between the brothers, Meng Zhifei accidentally pushed both the woman and Meng Zhifan off the cliff. The woman died, while Meng Zhifan survived by hanging onto the cliff edge. To evade guilt, both returned home falsely claiming the other was dead, fabricating ghost encounters to terrorize Xu Yilan using the festival's eerie atmosphere in an attempt to frame her, leaving Xu Yilan trapped in terror amid bizarre occurrences.
