As the year draws to a close, Zhou Qinglin, a renowned chef for wedding and funeral banquets, refuses to budge from his price of 560 yuan per table. His fellow clansmen accuse him of overcharging his own people and shut him out. His former apprentice, Sun Wanfa, seizes the chance to take every order in the village with an all-inclusive price of 430 yuan per table. Even as cancellations pour in, Zhou Qinglin holds to his principles and refuses to skimp on the weight of the fish and meat. Then a 35-table birthday banquet exposes serious problems with the ingredients, and the promise of a bargain falls apart. When the snowstorms pass, Zhou Qinglin fires up his stove again with quality ingredients, proving that an honest craftsman’s conscience is beyond price.
