Mystery novelist Chen Yubai mysteriously vanishes from his study—doors and windows are locked from the inside, there are no signs of a struggle, only the open manuscript of his new book and an unfinished cup of coffee on the desk. His assistant, Jiang Xia, brings along their neighbor and part-time detective, Su Mu, to investigate, only to find that every clue points to an impossible conclusion.
