The Pool Rescue Delayed by Lies
Six-year-old Xiao Chuan goes swimming at the pool with his grandmother Wang Qin. Urged on by her mahjong partners, Wang Qin leaves the child alone by the pool and goes upstairs to play cards. Soon, Xiao Chuan goes missing. Faced with her son's questioning, Wang Qin continually lies to cover up her negligence from playing, falsely claiming the child went to the locker room or to buy drinks. Zheng Qiang, a former lifeguard who has long-standing friction with the Lu family, insists on searching. Everyone assumes the child is just hiding out of playfulness, until a cry of alarm echoes from the poolside, and the rescue delayed by lies also exposes the hidden complacency and fractures within this family.
