Xin Xi is a fire-stoking maid in the manor of the treacherous official He Xu. Born with immense strength, she can outwork three people alone. He Xu had previously beaten over a dozen maids to death for attempting to climb into his bed, leaving no servant in the manor willing to serve him closely. The old steward seeks out Xin Xi, promising her five taels of silver a month and an honorable return home after three years, repeatedly warning her never to climb into his bed or risk losing her life. Two years later, after clearing his name, He Xu feigns drunkenness to test her, repeatedly trying to pull her into his bed, only for Xin Xi to kick him away, refusing to yield even upon death.
